Weapon expertise is one of those Diablo 4 systems that is easy to ignore until your build starts feeling slightly underpowered. The bonuses add up, especially when you are trying to squeeze more damage, control, or survivability from a high-level character. You do not need to spend an evening hunting monsters, either. A quick trip to the training grounds, combined with the right skill setup and a few useful D4 items, can make the process far less tedious.



Set Up the Test Area First

Head to the training grounds before changing anything in your build. This location keeps the process simple because the dummies do not move, fight back, or pull you into unwanted events. More importantly, switch the world difficulty to Normal. It is a small detail, but it helps keep the method consistent and avoids wasting time on settings that do not improve expertise progress. You are not there to test your full damage output. You are there to repeat one action cleanly.
Match Whirlwind to the Weapon You Want

Open your skill configuration and make Whirlwind use the weapon category you are trying to develop. This is the part players often rush, then wonder why the wrong expertise level is moving. Check the selected weapon before you start attacking. If you want to work through several categories, change the assignment between attempts rather than relying on your normal combat rotation. The goal is to make every second of Whirlwind count toward one specific weapon type.
